No Office Hours

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

Then the righteous will answer him ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?

When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

The King will reply ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Matthew 25:35-40

Friends,

Every time I read or study this verse, I literally get choked up.  There’s something about these words that just touches my heart.  There’s a calling there for me – a very intentional and deep calling.  And with that calling, I put aside my doubts, and I find myself knowing that I’m in the right place – serving others through the church.

I sit in the front office and witness the trials and joys of so many.  In the evenings, while at home, I often think of those I talked to during my workday. Sometimes I hear a life story by phone, other times strangers walk in through the front doors.

A young girl with a child in need of food;
A young man looking for gas money;
A family needing assistance to pay this month’s rent;
Someone who needs prayer for an upcoming hospital stay;
A young dad who is having a hard day and just wants to talk a bit;
People who are new to town and want to know more about the church;
Homeless friends that rely on us to provide a sack lunch and a hot cup of coffee;
Individuals brave enough to ask about needing to join a support group;
Others that want to study, learn and grow in Bible studies;
Families celebrating new babies, marriages, and baptisms,
And folks who sometimes just need some direction.

I could go on and on about the people that God brings through these doors.  Everyone brings their own story.  My prayer is that in some small way, we can show them that there are good days ahead, show them a small portion of Jesus’ love, and show them the love in my heart to serve them in even the smallest of ways.

If you need anything, have a question about the church, or feel like you want something more, come by and visit the church office to see how we can assist. We are approaching a busy time of year, and for some it is a difficult time.  Call, email or just stop by and visit, we’re open 6 days a week; although it’s been my life experience that there are no office hours for the line to Jesus.

Look forward to serving you soon,
