A Time to Say Yes

Posted by Jessica Caccamese on

“…we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many are one body in Christ, and individually, we are members of one another.”

Romans 12:4-5

Friends,

One of the most exciting days of my life happened almost 29 years ago, and it unfolded in a small Cessna over the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  The man I loved with all my heart asked me to marry him, and in that moment, I realized that the role of wife, best friend and mother to his son was a role that I passionately wanted to fill.  It was time to say yes, and we became engaged.  From that moment on, we were committed fully to our relationship, to showing our love to one another in very special, deeper ways than ever before.

As part of our journey of faith, we are called to say yes to a relationship for which we are uniquely created.  God equips us to each play a part, and when we do so, we experience our faith in richer, more meaningful ways.  As Servant Development Coordinator and part of the Outreach Ministry here at University, I have been blessed with the opportunity to assist you in discovering ways God may be calling you to a deeper relationship with Him through serving one another, our community and the world.  Perhaps your passion for outreach ministries is so strong that your heart breaks when you hear stories of racial prejudice, hungry children, or the homeless.  Perhaps your heart swells when you have the opportunity to shake hands with someone new on a Sunday morning or help them find a hot cup of coffee.  What about those of you that have been blessed with the gift of music, love teaching children, are tender and merciful with those who need healing, or who love doing tasks like handyman work, writing prayer cards, or helping with data entry?  No matter what call God has placed on your heart and what gifts He has blessed you with to fulfill the call, there is a place where you would fit perfectly, and we want to help you discover it.

Not too long ago, I was having a conversation with a group of friends over coffee on a Sunday morning.  As is the case most of the time, my conversation gravitated to what amazing things we could, as a Church, accomplish for Christ if everyone was serving in “their sweet spot.”  For a moment, we began to dream—and it was good!

“We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming.  But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into Him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.”  Ephesians 4:14-16

Blessings,
Jessica
